Slovakia Has Successful Young Digital Europeans

No less than 1,854 boys and girls from 130 Slovak schools participated in the first year of the knowledge competition for students of second- and third grades of both grammar schools and secondary vocational schools under the name Young Digital European.
The winners were given their awards on Tuesday, 23rd June 2015 at the European Information Centre in Bratislava. "The participating students have measured their strength in knowledge about the EU, while using modern digital technologies", the Chairman of the European Commission representation in Slovakia Mr. Dušan Chrenek informed on the new format of the competition. Mr. Chrenek also expressed satisfaction with the competition results: "I am delighted that no less than 400 young people answered the questions with success rate over 75%. This is a positive sign for us."
 
The overall results of the competition were very good. No less than 1,474 students (i.e. 79.5%) solved the tests with score more than 50%.
 
In the test, students responded to thirty knowledge-based questions. As part of the competition, they were given the opportunity to express their views on the future of Europe. Regarding implementation of the common currency, 41.9% of students stated that the more states implement the Euro as their currency, the more will Europe be united. 80% of Slovak students think that the EU should actively create new jobs by supporting cross-border infrastructure projects.
 
In the first place in the category of the best school ranked the Business Academy in Prievidza. As a reward, six students from this school together with their teacher will travel for a study visit to Brussels and the EU institutions. Other valuable prizes, such as tablets or USB flash drives, are waiting for the winners.
 
This year, the competition was held under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Juraj Draxler and the Chairman of the European Commission representation in the Slovak Republic, Mr. Dušan Chrenek. Partner of the competition is the Government Office of the Slovak Republic as the Managing Authority for the Operational Programme Informatisation of Society. The competition "Young Digital European" was carried out through a new electronic testing system E-Test, which is implemented by the National Institute for Certified Educational Measurement (NÚCEM) as part of the national project "Increasing the quality of primary and secondary education with the use of electronic testing". The national project is co-financed from the European Union resources within the Operational Programme Education.
